Keep water moving
Metal edge protection and overlapping underlayment cover the deck, working from the eave upward.
Overlaps shed water outward. Underlayment provides secondary protection beneath the finished roof.
Eave and rake details, leak barriers, slope and fastening must follow the selected system and local requirements.
Secure the perimeter
Starter material establishes the first course along the roof perimeter.
The specified starter and sealant arrangement support the edge shingles against wind uplift.
Check starter compatibility, alignment, fastening and the prescribed overhang.
Build the weather surface
Shingles install in overlapping courses from the eaves toward the ridge.
The overlaps shed rain; the specified offset and fastening pattern help the covering perform as a system.
Use the exact product instructions for exposure, nails, placement and wind requirements.
Protect every transition
The model highlights a pipe boot and flashing integrated with the surrounding covering. These details are installed as the courses reach them.
Water must pass over the flashing and back onto the roof surface, rather than into the opening.
Check penetrations, walls and valleys. Sealant alone is not a substitute for correctly integrated flashing.
Finish with confidence
The ridge vent and cap complete the roof. The crew reviews the finished installation and clears the work area.
A designed intake-and-exhaust ventilation path helps manage attic heat and moisture. Final checks catch unfinished details.
