Newer homes, open prairie weather.

Many Hutto roofs are young, but open ground leaves them exposed to wind and hail. Start with what the storm actually did to this roof.

A young roof is not a storm-proof roof

Much of Hutto was built in the last two decades, so the roofs we see are often newer than their owners expect to replace. A newer roof can still lose shingles along an edge in high wind or take hail damage across a whole slope. Ask for photographs of each affected slope and a clear statement of whether a repair restores the roof or the damage is widespread.

Wind finds the edges first

On open, flat ground there is little to slow the wind before it reaches the roof. Lifted and missing shingles usually start at rakes, ridges and eaves. Replacing only the missing pieces is sometimes enough; check that the surrounding shingles still seal and that the replacement matches the existing product and exposure.

Neighborhood rules and matching materials

Many Hutto subdivisions have a homeowners association that reviews exterior changes, including shingle color. Confirm what the association requires before choosing a product, and keep the product name, color and invoice with the house records so a future repair can match it.

Who permits roofing work in Hutto

Inside the city limits, the Permits and Inspections Division of Hutto’s Development Services Department reviews residential permit applications and carries out inspections, with applications submitted online. Hutto sits on open, flat Blackland Prairie ground in Williamson County, and some homes nearby are outside the city limits, where the city’s building division is not the reviewing authority.

What we have worked on in Hutto

Our published Hutto records run from July 2024 to June 2026: fifteen jobs, most of them full roof replacements. Several were storm-driven — high winds that stripped shingles, and hail damage on newer homes in May 2025 — and several were in the Mustang Creek neighborhood, including roofs finished in IKO Dynasty and IKO Cambridge shingles. The records also include wind-damage shingle repairs and an emergency tarp installed to keep water out until the roof could be repaired.

Hutto roofing questions

Straight answers,
close to home.

My Hutto home is only a few years old. Can the roof really need replacing?

Yes, if a storm damaged it. Several of our Hutto replacements were on newer homes after hail or high winds. Age tells you how much life the roof had left; it does not tell you what the storm did. A slope-by-slope inspection with photographs answers that.

Wind took a few shingles off. Is that a repair or a new roof?

Often a repair: replacing the missing shingles and checking that the ones around them still seal. It becomes a larger conversation when the damage is spread across several slopes or the replacement shingles cannot be matched. We photograph what we find and tell you which case you are in.

Does my homeowners association need to approve a new roof?

Many Hutto neighborhoods have an association that reviews exterior changes, including shingle color. Check your association’s rules and approval process before choosing a product; we can provide the product name and color details the application usually asks for.
